ABOUT US

Qara Rosa is the beginning of the second-generation Samba scene in Singapore.

Fusing eclectic beats and mesmerizing performance elements, this initiative seeks to blend the traditional form of Samba music with new-age showmanship.

Qara Rosa translates to ‘black rose’, a symbol of change with an eye to the future. It inspires confidence and enthusiasm by signalling the birth of a new era of hope and joy through our work.

Bursting out of the blocks, Qara Rosa opened Viva O Samba 2019, Singapore’s biggest Samba festival, which featured the likes of MOTUS, SAmbiesta, New Stream Brass Band, and SMU Samba Masala.

🕣 One, two, three, four. On October 21, we switch up Samba lore.

✨ We're extremely proud to announce our upcoming production - ECHO: Tempos of Time! A trifecta of Singapore's Samba prowess seeking to explore the concept of time, @qararosa @sambiesta and @smusambamasala demonstrate the contemporary beats that exemplify our rhythmic flair, before exploring the ancient roots of percussion that inspired them.

🎟 Tickets are free and available for collection at Our Tampines Hub at a later date, which we'll announce very soon. We'll be showcasing the best that our percussion scene has to offer, so bring your friends and family - we've got a score to settle with time itself.

🔥 Hell was raised at Budi's Samba percussion workshop two Saturdays ago! Diving into the mestre's creative mind (from a suitably high location at Vida Brasil Movement Lab, no less) we let the drumbeats pierce loud and proud, in what was a truly pulsating weekend.

🌈 Despite an entire afternoon of rain deflating the hopes and dreams of carnivalgoers across the heartlands, the rainbow was back amongst the stands right before we opened, and we made sure the sunset accompaniment didn't disappoint.

The Tampines night sky saw two sets of fireworks on the last day of 2022 - one that dotted the skies, and one that sparked the hearts. 🎊💜

We had the pleasure of debuting two new percussive bangers at Countdown to Magical Moments, organised by the good people at @ourtampineshub! Also taking to the stage for the first time were 37 talented volunteers from Our Tampines Hub, who added a unique glow to our Finale reminiscent of the incredible grassroots community here.
